Magical Marchesa-II

 Marchesa is under fire. Just FYI you know.

There are a few sites that I've recently started browsing and man they hate Marchesa! why?? I mean I usually think that the dresses are fabulous. Just look at the liquid gold one below, its pretty special. The bodice fits like a dream and the rose like gathering on the hip is pretty interesting as well. The negaters say that most of Marchesa's gowns are heavily inspired by elaborate night wear, and well one of the pieces below definitely looks like that, but at the same time most of their gowns show great craftsmanship and artistry. Yes, maybe they are too puffy and princessy for some to like, but that still does not justify the amount of hate and anger its haters seem to feel at its designs.I know, I know, it seems pretty mean spirited to have such negative introduction to a beautiful collection (at least I think so), and introductions by nature are so supposed to be lavished with praise and all that, but I just wanted you guys to feel the same way as I did when seeing the collection. I wanted you to keep in mind as well that a lot of people seem to think that Marchesa pulls really gimmicky stuff each and every time for its collection and if knowing that changes the way you see the collection Weirdly enough I don't. the only pissing of thing about Marchesa is that you know Blake Lively will wear it like its her own closet. Annoying.

Fall Fashion Weeks 2012

Obviously you know that fall fashion weeks have been taking place. First, as custom, it was New York, and now its London's turn.Also Wills India Fashion Week has also been taking place.Next should be Paris/ Milan so on so forth/
Since I am only human, and not too fabulous these days when it comes to blogging (sinusy, bored and reading) , I cannot possibly post about every show, or every show I even like. Somehow I haven't been moved to write about any of them , even though have appreciated quite a few.

The one that caught me most off -guard uptil now is Michael Kors. Ive never considered him to be a real powerhouse when its comes to fashion since his designs tend to be too American- i.e, nothing jaw dropping- also possibly because he appears on Project Runway, and how dedicated can a designer be if he has been appearing regularly  on reality television for years? But his fall 2012 collection was wonderful, wonderful. Yes it lacked all the fantasicalness that makes me say yeh hui na baat in typical Indian joint family member fashion , but honestly I kinda appreciated it because some shows are so OTT in their drama, that the clothes just end up getting lost in the concept. He actually made me want to wear plaid- something that I have avoided like the plague up til lnow.He made me want to wear red, something that I have considered a cheap trick ever since it became bigger than its own good back in 2000. No mean feat. And the fur...mouth watering. Thank God I am not an animal enthusiast, or anti-fur/vegan.
Apparently after this show, Micheal Kors company's shares had risen by 27 percent.I get it.

Btw, not to be a snitch or anything but the red MK has used is dangerously close to Valentino's red. Myabe its that our eyes have been thirst for that red, since the team at Valentino has forgotten about it.

Marchesa, ever so loyal to its own self, was angelic, ethereal, lace, tulle, chiffon, and dream like. Angel like purity and innocence mixed with royal embellishments and detailing. Contrasting with MK, which is really, for every woman- and people can find occasions to wear those pieces (like everyday), Marchesa collection was something that most of us morals can only dream of wearing, and that too only once. Having said that, it doesn't take away from the fact that they were undeniably gorgeous.All the while I was cursing Blake Lively because I know she'll  be wearing the best ones in shorter versions. Btw, I totally condone being a gold digger/ or being a Saudi/Arab prince's fourth wife if it means you will get the occasions and the cash for such finery. Should totally go for it.

Naeem Khan is one designer I really look forward to, time and over again. First I love that he has made it big in an international market ( um...Michella Obama wore him), and I love spotting the desiness in his collections. His fall collection was inspired by the bindi- which is literally a dot. The bindi personifies many  things in Inidan/Hindu culture, none of which are my concerns abhi, but his materialization of the concept in his collection is beautiful. Seriously. Yes in some places you think, who're you kidding bro its a polka dot, but at other time you see where the 'bindiess' comes in. Maybe I'm looking too much into it. In any case, I loved most of the collection. Obviously would love to wear, cannot wait to see who wears what at the Oscars- and I will kill someone if i don't see an appearance of the finishing number; It was made for goddesses, and the Oscars- it is wowww. I would've like to see some color. This collection is primarily black, and then a little bit white, and then some metallic- but NK, being an Indian and all can handle his colors really well. But maybe he wanted it to be more somber- since its fall/winter?

Cushnie et Ochs- are my recent interests, so wanted to see what they are upto. Apparently nothing very itnersting. The dresses, were figure hugging , curve enhancing with nips and cuts in appropriate/inappropriate places, and plastic surgeon type markings (apparently it is inspired by the movie The Skin I live In). Did I fall in love? No. Would I buy soemthing from there? perhaps, the dresses seem to have the potential to fit your body like a glove and transform you into a ________, and we all like to have the option to feel that way if the occasion/mood ever calls for it.

Prabal Gurung, also a recent interest wowed my mind like you cannot imagine in his spring 2012 RTW collection. The pants, the colour, the cut outs, the paint spills- it was a blessing. So obviously my expectations were quite high for PG f/w 2012. Obviously the moment you expect anything, you should also prepare yourself for disappointment because unfortunately that is just the way humans\ minds run. Its annoying.
In this collection,  PG went more black, and less bright. Obviously- since its fall.winter that is to be expected. I loved some of his silhouettes. I loves the bootleg pants with short dresses/tops. Ive been wanting that look to enter the scene for a while now, so it was a great pleasure to finally see it come. The print dresses in blue were lovely, the funnest and most unexpected item on the runway was the embellished sweatshirt which I must-must have, and towards the end the gowns ,in black and white with laser cut embellishments were just lovely. I read somewhere that the last pieces were too Tisci-inspired; maybe they were, but I love all things Tisci- so the more the merrier. This would probably be cheaper as well.Maybe I could afford it without having to become the fourth wife, so why not.

Golden Globes Fashion

So I was really looking forward to the Golden Globes obviously because of the fashion (I don't think I've seen anything that won a Globe yesterday except Modern Family)
Its so much fun to see what the stars wore, how amazing they looked,what you would do differently you know... all that kind of stuff.
Frankly, I'm a bit disappointed by this year's turnout. Like seriously. Things could have been better. I don't know what it is.Maybe now there are so many movie premieres, and publicity events that you get used to seeing stars in fabulous clothes all the time, so anything that falls in the 'seen' category ends up falling for me in the 'miss' category because I think its that night where you really up your game  and use all those precious contacts at the world's most renowned fashion houses, and show up wearing a knockout, leave-me-gasping for breath dress.Also this was the Golden Globes. If things are so ho-hum at this awards show, which is supposed to be literally like a party, then what can we expect for Oscar fashion, which is you know the biggest prude out of all the awards show.

Believe it or not my favorite out of everyone was Helen Mirren.Yes, for real.
I never thought the day would come. But it has. Its true. Never say never.
Its not like she's a bad dresser, of course not she's nice -very age appropriate, and actually pretty awesome for her age. But she hardly wears the kind of stuff you'd (I'd) be like, wow I have to wear this you know, or oohmygooood so cool. But today, as I was looking at all the pictures, I came across Helen Mirren and I was like, wow she looks amazing, and the dress is realllly nice.The belt, the silhouette it all adds up pretty wow.The fitted bodice gives a real nice shape, the ruffled skirt obviously adds the fashion element and the long sleeves add that zing , that may have not been there if it was a sleeveless gown. You know? Am so used to seeing strapless,and sleeveless that anything with sleeves immediately categorizes itself in the 'fashion' category.Her dress is a Badgley Mischka.

See the thing is, I expect the stars to look better than ever before type. Like its not possible for them to look any better. Helen Mirren was the only one who accomplished that pretty fully. The rest, left a lot to be desired in terms of looking the best they ever had.
In addition, some of the couture collection from Fall (fall!), and Spring 2012 runway had some really spectacular stuff, I was hoping to see that. I expected at least one McQueen sighting, and one Givenchy Fall 2011 couture sighting- your remember those na? they were spectacular! How does one not rush to wear them given the opportunity? Where else can you wear such concoctions?

Sophia Vergara was one of the tops for me at the Globes. The choice of dress was pretty damn good. See the gown itself is stunning, like J'adore it, J'can't live without it . But at the same time,the look seems a little dated- or I guess its just veryyyy classic. But still, I love the thick ruffles and texturing.Its a bit unsettling, cos while I think everything is quite perfect, I know it could be pushed further to look even better.Maybe a different hairstyle, different makeup look, a choker? It's a Vera Wang.
You know what...I think maybe more cleavage would've done the trick pretty well. Yep. Nailed it.

 

Even  though Angelina Jolie sticks to pretty classic looks,and rarely ever gives us an insanely fashion forward or even sex-bombish look (anymore), I still looked forward to her Globes gown.And you know what? I was pleasantly surprised. I really liked the entire thing. The red accents look magnificent I think. The lip, the panel, the bag they all look great. Of course I know she can take it up a notch, especially if she stops asexualizing her body, but this look did take my breath away momentarily. The gown is Atelier Versace.

 

I know! Your probably wondering wtf is Buffy the Vampire Slayer doing here? Is she even in showbiz anymore?Well I don't blame you. But I wanted to feature the dress, not the actress, the actress just kinda came along with it. Sarah Michelle Gellar wears Monique Lhuillier. I love the gown, See this is more of what I wanted to see, people experimenting with fashion a little bit. Like yes, I know there is soemthing off about the fit of the gown, but hell, I love the swirly-painting-inkiness on the dress. So mazey ka.

 Zooey Deschanel in Prada. Custom made. Pretty cool, although not sure about matrix inspired color combo, but oh well. I like that its a bit crazy, a bit experimental, a bit fun- that's why its in this list. Having said that I don't know if I would wear it myself to the globes. I'd wear it on other days/occasions- but globes? I dunno.

Lastly there is Lea Michele aka Rachel Berry from Glee. Now see, I think her dress is too nanga and way too 'all-eyes-on me-' but I guess that's what I like about it as well.Still.I just find the actress/ her character in Glee terribly annoying and attention seeking,and so I can see her drama queen personality traits being reflected in this Marchesa gown, because obviously we can see that the dress screams for attention.I loved the entire Marchesa SS 2012 collection, and am glad to see one spectacular gown sighting from the collection, although I wish it hadn't been Rachel Berry.
See this is the kind of  spectacularity I'm talking about. The gown has that star quality. I expected more star quality from Golden Globes fashion.
Just imagine if Angelina Jolie wore this gown , wouldn't we all go crazy? And she would look awesome as well- no two ways about that. And the kind of mystique and elegance Angie exudes on a daily basis, perhaps this dress wouldn't look so Times Square you know?But no, Angie has taken a life-long promise to asexulaise her body- she used to have such a knockout figure, all curves and stuff, abh she's hell bent on convincing us that its only frail bones underneath the clothes.I wish she wore something like this.I understand that she is a humanitarian now with a multicultural brood, so she doesn't want to come across as self-indulgent or vain, but come one...its just a gown.
Yes, I know what your saying...its too attention seeking, Which it is. But you get what I'm trying to say right?

So I saw a really interesting picture recently, which made me think of the title I've kept for this blog.
Actually that's a lie, recently someone quoted that line and I thought, wow nice line-next time ,I'll use. And just my luck- I came across the perfect picture.

I really really wonder whats going on here. Like its true what they say,  A picture is worth a thousand words.This picture has been taken on the set of Mad Men which is currently shooting for its much awaited fifth season.
The most intriguing part of thr picture is of course my boyfriend hero, Don Draper. And I'm sure you'll think that I'm going to go off on another monologue about his sexiness, but no, that's not it (HA!). Look at his face, and look at his expression. That does not seem like  a happy face. That does not seem like he has found his eternal happily-ever-after with Megan. Don looks so disturbed. No, not in deranged,psychotic kinda way; but in a wtf just happened/is happening kind of way. He seems troubled, shaken-as though he saw a ghost or something awful.And the way Megan (his new fiancee/ former secretary) is coming after him , something is off.

Ohmygod  I think I cracked the Da Vinci code! what if Megan is cheating on him and he walked in on her?!?!. No. That's too good to be true, and plus I'm sure he wouldn't have waited for her to put her clothes on, and then stormed off.Okay maybe she didn't cheat on him, and he didn't walk in on them - but she definitely did something because she looks guilty-ish (does she? is it me?) Or maybe Don probably realized how he was completely out of his mind to be with her in the first place? What if Betty is getting full custody of the kids and wont let Don meet them out of jealousy (Megan) and because she is such a  child? That could be a reason why he looks so hopelessly lost, and forlorn.

Whatever the case, he looks like he needs a big hug and someone to tell him it'll all be fine.Megan is not it.

Just imagine if this isn't even an actual scene and just one of those random shots during their break.And being the girl that I am, I've already made an entire story about it.

I guess we can only find out in March 2012.

Magical Marchesa

Magical.
I don't know any other word to best describe Marchesa's creations because the models seem to be walking right out of a fairytale.A magical,couture, fairytale.
Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig seemingly make gowns only for the red carpet and/or weddings. That could be true, but who cares? They are beautiful, and honestly some of them seemed be concocted out of clouds. Who wouldn't want to wear a dress that would make them feel like they're walking amongst the clouds ?

The theatricality of their creations is hard to ignore, and perhaps the best way to view them is as Couture confections.  Their dresses are intricate, painstakingly detailed,  grand, unique and opulent, all at the same time. Yes, Marchesa has a tendency to be over the top, but I think that's exactly why you'd go to them for. If you want to feel like a princess - you go to Chapman and Craig. The label's collection was a welcome change in its lack of bold, bright colors which we have seen so much in the past few weeks. Instead this collection was deeply based in ivories,and silvers with gorgeous lilacs.Very,  very ,dream-like.I love how they played with the sheerness of the fabrics, and the clever use of embellishment to create the perfect balance.

I wonder which one of these will make the first appearance on the red carpet.

Breathtaking

 I have trouble picking my favorite. I don't think there ever existed a harder task.
