Dolce and Gabbana: The Italian Family Saga-II

Remember a short while back I posted about the Dolce and Gabbana SS 2012 ad campaign?

Well the label has released more ads for the campaign, featuring Monica Bellucci and Bianca Balti, shot by Giampaolo Sgura. As mentioned before, I'm in love with the portrayal of the a typical Italian family ( albeit, in gorgeous clothes), and the family style portraits.
The ads featuring only Bianca Balti showcase the label's accessories line as well as the apparel. I didn't notice this before probably because Monica Bellucci is so magnetic that you can't look at anyone except her, but wow, Bianca Balti is gorgeous.Her shoot is amazing.I also want to be a part of this family. Major self esteem issues though.

Eat Your Heart Out!

If you woke up today with the aim that you will start controlling what you eat  a little bit, or perhaps stop eating all the crap that you do, or that your going to go on a strict detox etc etc....I want you to get up, and get the worst crime to your body and eat it. Whatever it is.
Like today I woke up wanting to have this chocolate biscuit with my chai, so I thought I'd take it to work,  but then thought, spare yourself  and so didn't get it.Should've, because today is a day of celebration.
As far as I can remember, I've been hearing, seeing, told that the skinnier you are the better you look;clothes look better on skinnies. And to a large extent that's true, I mean I've seen it for my own self, so why lie and act like its propaganda. However, there is a faction that believes women look better with some meat on their bones,(and mind you, this faction has staunch supporters as well) but these are mostly guys, and we all know girls dress up for other girls. So we are back to square one.  My personal stance is that while  women look better with meat, clothes look better with bones. Its just a matter of choice which type of girl you'd rather be (and whether you like food)
I'm not saying clothes look fugly on non-skinnies, of course they don't, in fact some pieces look great with curves (bustiers, hello!, pencil-skirts, hello!), but if you do a general statistical analysis, if your skinny, chances are almost anything will look good on you. Whereas if your non skinny, some clothes might look offensive, and you might look ready to pop.
Today, however, is the day of days. I have found the first real evidence, that might prove the claim that even clothes (gasp) might look better on non-skinnies. I feel like a scientist.Yes, yes!  and its not one of those, matter of opinion thingies, this is as in your face it will get. Its obvious where the dress looks better. Okay, lemme show.

You remember this Cushnie et Ochs collection I put up a lil while back? Well one of the dresses from the collection (my favorite dress actually), is featured in the SS 2012 ad campaign as well, and a bones and skin model is featured in the campaign whereas on the runway the model was more curvaceous and filled out. Non-skinny wins obviously, the dress looks so blah on the skinny, kinda like its going to fall off due to lack of support.With the curvy, you can't take your eyes off her, and you'd turn around to watch her go, haina?

So after seeing the campaign, I went down to the coffee shop and got a brownie. I know. Horrifyingly maniacal behavior, and convinced one of my colleagues who had been controlling her diet for the past week to duck it. I showed her the evidence,Exhibit A, proving that skinny women do not look better, and hence she don't need to diet no more. Colleague is now eternally in my debt as I  renewed her self esteem,  which was evident through the multiple thank yous I got for ' giving her confidence back', and best of all, she ate half of my brownie, much to my relief (because I'm not eating the entire thing, that would be blasphemy).

So, if you agree, eat something fun today, and get back to doubting yourself tomorrow.

Cushnie et Ochs

I am so excited , its been a while since I've come across something/anything I have to have.
Yes seriously.
I didn't know about this designer duo called Cushnie et Ochs and they make such sexy wearable clothes. Like I have to have one of the white dresses. You'd feel like a hundred million dollars in it. The world would be at your feet.So sexy. And its white. I don't know if I have mentioned this before, but I am on a permanent quest for the perfect white dress. Beautifully tailored, no embellishment, nothing just cuts cuts cuts, and what was even more amazing was that when I was seeing the runway shots, the dressed looked better on girls who were more filled out rather than the stick thin ones. Isn't that like the best news you've heard in a millenia?

Really Cool Nails

Fashionologie, has picked up on this runway trend of dark, inky nail tips. I think they look really cool. I really wanna try this out properly, only I dont have the required patience for nail art. I think its a refreshing change from the bright, coral hues I've been seeing a lot, and they aren't quite as stark and goth as the really dark, vampirish nail colors that have been doing the rounds. Its a wonderful, edgy, and slightly messy mix of two different looks. Oh and I love little messy.

Cool right? Like they have been dipped in a paint can. Kinda reminiscent of Prabal Gurung's SS 2012 collection na ?

Magical Marchesa

Magical.
I don't know any other word to best describe Marchesa's creations because the models seem to be walking right out of a fairytale.A magical,couture, fairytale.
Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig seemingly make gowns only for the red carpet and/or weddings. That could be true, but who cares? They are beautiful, and honestly some of them seemed be concocted out of clouds. Who wouldn't want to wear a dress that would make them feel like they're walking amongst the clouds ?

The theatricality of their creations is hard to ignore, and perhaps the best way to view them is as Couture confections.  Their dresses are intricate, painstakingly detailed,  grand, unique and opulent, all at the same time. Yes, Marchesa has a tendency to be over the top, but I think that's exactly why you'd go to them for. If you want to feel like a princess - you go to Chapman and Craig. The label's collection was a welcome change in its lack of bold, bright colors which we have seen so much in the past few weeks. Instead this collection was deeply based in ivories,and silvers with gorgeous lilacs.Very,  very ,dream-like.I love how they played with the sheerness of the fabrics, and the clever use of embellishment to create the perfect balance.


Just take a look, they are stunnnnning.
I wonder which one of these will make the first appearance on the red carpet.

Gurung you genius!

These are my favorite Prabal Gurung looks from SS 2012.I love the whole metallic/ painterly prints juxtaposed against pristine white that he's got going on in some of the pieces. I just love it when it seems like the designer has had fun with the design. I always looks for pieces that don't take themselves too seriously, and these pieces are exactly that. Then there is the purple and black dress. Who wouldn't want to have that dress for a great night out?  and with that dress...guarantee GREAT night . Then there is that soft, flowy white dress, with some amazing detailing and elements. The thigh high slit definitely amps up the sexy-quotient of the dress, but somehow it doesn't take away from its angel like purity. If I had a white wedding, I would definitely wear something like this. Simple, no fuss, but so dreamy and oh so sexy.
