Elie Saab Spring Couture 2012

Today, while mistakenly seeing Elie Saab's spring/summer RTW collection instead of Couture, it came to me-the reason for the Label's success: He is the Zara of  high end fashion labels. I mean this in the best possible way.
The thing with the Lebanese designer's clothes is that they are simple and gorgeous. They are complication free, you don't look at them and think 'what is this?'- not that that's a bad thing, I mean I do find that range of clothing interesting- but with Elie Saab- his creations are immensely likable for a much wider audience than most couture creations. Classy, elegant, sexy, glamorous and pretty all at the same time. The primary aesthetic rule with his gowns is that the woman has to look good, and feel good- his fashion isn't imposing and intimidating- that's why he is such a success on the Red Carpets; his clothes work and you don't have to try very hard for them to work.With Haute Couture, sometimes you have to 'get' the piece- with him, he doesn't bother you with such details. And they are gorgeous- no two ways about that. Effortlessly glamorous.
For his Spring Couture collection, the dresses displayed some brilliant handiwork, inspired by floral patterns, with a few appearances by full skirted printed gowns as well. Slim evening gowns with intricate, crystal embellished embroidery were the most prominently featured though.
The entire collection was in beautiful pastels of mint green, peach, yellow, baby blue and ink. Its a much welcomed change after all the bright, bold colors we have become accustomed to seeing in the past few years. This was very delicate, fairy like, shimmery and sheer. The entire collection presented us with the same look, essentially the difference was just in the color, the sleeves, neckline etc, but in essence most of them were different compositions of the same gown, Not that I mind, it s a visual treat- one that is not hard to digest. That's the thing with Elie Saab, you know you'll like something or the other in his collections- like Zara. His clothes may not make the editorial crowd and the fashion insiders to get too excited, but the rest of us- we're happy with him.

The Jacket

A little while ago I mentioned this jacket that I was in love with and was waiting for it to come to me, before I disclosed what it looked like.
Well...it looks like it is'nt coming. It wasn't available in Dubai, its sold out on the US site,and it can't be found in Montreal either. I know I'm to blame, because this jacket came in September I think, and of course it would get sold out immediately cos its spectacular, and we are in October end now- so I'm late. I guess, it seems like it's just not going to be mine. Which is possibly the saddest thing.
Anyway, I thought I'd finally post a picture of the jacket. Now don't look at it and be like "whats so special about this?", because I'd have to wear it to demonstrate and I don't have it so I can't wear it. Plus its just one of those things, either you get it or you don't.It's fine either way. I'm sure my daughters and her daughters would've understood. Another prospective family heirloom gone to waste.

  Also, while we're on Zara there are these boots that are kind of tickling my fancy you know? I don't love love them but I am sort of interested for some reason.Its funny because I know that if I'd seen those boots at Z or on anyone a few years ago I'd be like 'whyyyy would you do that?', and tbh, I think that was my reaction the first time I saw them- but strangely enough I find myself wanting to wear them. I catch myself mentally pairing outfits with them. Weird na?
I must be growing up.

Waiting for perfection

I'm in love.
I have found  the jacket I had been looking for all my life, or at least all of  the last two weeks in my dreams. and I found it. I finally did. It feels great. It really does.
I just love Zara and how it gets me. Sometimes I feel it was made only for me, because I have a hard time  not liking anything over there. except of course their price hike. But they do such a good job of giving me almost exactly what I want. Even their guys section. They've got such nice stuff, I'd always want to buy myself sweaters from there- and tbh I did.

So I found this Jacket, and what can I tell you. Its so cool. I can wear it allll the time this coming winter. Like literally all the time.I can wear it work with a white tee, and jeans and boots.I can wear it other places, maybe slightly more dressed up. Oh and its a great under-dresser. I have an issue with being over dressed, so now whenever  I'll feel " too much" , I'll wear that on top- and immediately wont feel "too much". Genius na?

Also its such a versatile, and classic piece that its just not the sort that'll ever look weird, you know? Like its not fashionable, fashionable- its just  a great basic with a twist. So tbh, I'm really making an investment in my future, because I'll probably wear it for the rest of my life.I'll probably even pass it on to my daughter. She can pass it on to hers. Really I'm in investing in what is going to eventually be a family heirloom.

I'm not going to put up a picture just yet. I want to wait till I have it in my hands. Nazar and all. Don't want to jinx it because I've talked way too much about it. And also they say if something seems to good to be true, it probably is( although. hopefully that is not going to be the case with this. Hopefully. Hopefully. ). If that happens, I think I will die out of disappointment.

So hold on tight. and pray that I get it.
