The Devil's dictionary is a satirical reference book written by Ambrose Beirce. It provides alternative meanings of words, reinterpreted through societal norms and general life.Its really interesting.
Here are two of my favorite meanings :
LANGUAGE, n. The music with which we charm the serpents guarding another's treasure.
ACQUAINTANCE, n. A person whom we know well enough to borrow from, but not well enough to lend to. A degree of friendship called slight when its object is poor or obscure, and intimate when he is rich or famous.
